SailGP in Geneva

The Formula One of Sailing on Freshwater

For the first time ever, SailGP brought its spectacle to freshwater, right here in Geneva. For me, it felt especially personal: living by the lake and with my daughter a member of the Yacht Club, sailing, boating and life close to the water have always been part of my world. But this was something else entirely.

Photographing the celebration of sailing

With the quays closed to traffic, crowds made their pilgrimage to the Yacht Club on Quai de Cologny, filling the waterfront with energy and anticipation.

Of course, I brought along my favourite event photography kit to capture it all: the impressive speed of the foiling catamarans, the intensity of the crews, and the excitement in the faces of the spectators. Against the breathtaking backdrop of Lake Geneva and the Jura mountains, the contrast was striking — the cutting-edge carbon technology of the SailGP F50s racing at over 60 km/h in a light brise, while classic wooden sailboats glided calmly in the background.

It was more than a race; it was a celebration of sailing in all its forms, from tradition to innovation, at its most spectacular.

A big thank you to the City of Geneva and the Yacht Club de Genève for organizing such an unforgettable event. My favourite images from race day are below. Hope you’ll like them — and let me know your thoughts.
